Government Grants Available

In Malta, there are government grants available to encourage the adoption of solar energy systems. These grants cover a portion of the costs associated with installing solar PV systems and battery storage. For example, there’s a grant of up to €3,000 for solar PV systems with a hybrid inverter, and up to €7,200 for home battery systems. Additionally, there are grants for replacing old inverters with new hybrid models.

Here’s a breakdown of the grants:

  • PV Systems with Hybrid Inverter: Up to €3,000 or 50% of eligible costs (or €750 per kWp).
  • Home Battery Systems (Malta): Up to €7,200 or 80% of eligible costs (or €720 per kWh).
  • Home Battery Systems (Gozo): Up to €8,550 or 95% of eligible costs (or €720 per kWh).
  • Replacing Old Inverters: Up to €1,800 or 80% of the costs (or €450 per kWp).

Eligibility

  • Grants are primarily for private individuals for residential properties.
  • Applicants must have planning permission (where required) for the installation.
  • The applicant must be the freehold owner or have a long leasehold interest in the property.
  • The property should be used mainly by the applicant or their family for residential purposes.
